Conservation and restoration of critical wetland habitat
When we purchased this amazing property in 2025, our goal was conservation and restoration of this critical wetland habitat. With the discovery of this large rookery of Agami Heron, this objective is even more important.
Our primary objective is to keep this area wild and provide a safe sanctuary for the Agami Heron and other critical species found here.
This 30-hectare nature reserve serves as a protected haven for one of the most elusive and sought-after bird species in Central America. The discovery of this rookery in May 2025 represents a significant conservation opportunity and provides visitors with an unparalleled wildlife experience.
To ensure the protection of the Agami Heron colony and maintain the integrity of this critical habitat, we ask all visitors to follow these important guidelines:
Keep noise levels to a minimum to avoid disturbing the nesting birds. Loud sounds can cause stress and may lead to nest abandonment.
Follow marked trails and viewing areas only. Do not venture into restricted areas or attempt to approach nests directly.
Photography is permitted but avoid using flash. Maintain a respectful distance and do not use drones or other aerial devices.
Follow the guidance of your tour guide regarding viewing times. Extended stays in one area can cause disturbance to the birds.
Do not attempt to feed the birds or interact with them in any way. This is a protected wildlife sanctuary.
Carry out all trash and belongings. Do not leave any items behind that could harm the environment or wildlife.
